President Donald Trump is in Japan on Monday for the second leg of his Asia tour. The trip comes as the president is closer than ever to a new trade deal with China.
On Sunday, Trump attended a regional summit in Malaysia, striking preliminary trade agreements with Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. He even witnessed the signing of a new ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia.
Later on Monday, Trump will meet Japan's new prime minister, the first woman to hold the office.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says a “substantial framework” deal is imminent ahead of Trump’s Thursday meeting with President Xi Jinping.
Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that he expects to walk away from that meeting with a deal. He’s also expected to finalize a separate agreement on TikTok by Thursday!
